Hold to Talk ("we", "our", "the app") is a macOS dictation application. We take your privacy seriously and are committed to being transparent about how your data is handled.
Audio Data
When you use Hold to Talk, your voice audio is sent to our transcription server for processing. We operate a zero data retention policy. Your audio is:
- Sent securely over HTTPS to our server
- Forwarded to OpenAI's Whisper API for transcription
- Immediately discarded after the transcription text is returned
We do not store, log, save, or replay your audio recordings or transcription results on our servers.
Transcription History
The app may store recent transcription text locally on your Mac for your convenience. This data never leaves your device and can be cleared or disabled in the app's settings.
Account Information
If you subscribe to a paid plan, we collect your email address and payment information through our payment processor (Stripe). We do not store your full credit card details. Stripe's privacy policy governs payment data handling.
Third-Party Services
Hold to Talk relies on the following third-party services:
- OpenAI Whisper API — processes audio for transcription. Subject to OpenAI's privacy policy.
- Cloudflare Workers — hosts our transcription server. Subject to Cloudflare's privacy policy.
- Stripe — handles payment processing for paid plans. Subject to Stripe's privacy policy.
Analytics & Tracking
We do not use analytics or tracking in the Hold to Talk app itself.
On our website (holdtotalk.com), we use the following services to understand how visitors find and use the site:
- Google Analytics — collects anonymized usage data such as pages visited, referral source, and general location. Subject to Google's privacy policy.
- Microsoft Clarity — records anonymized session replays and heatmaps to improve the website experience. Subject to Microsoft's privacy statement.
- Google Ads — measures ad campaign effectiveness by tracking conversions. Subject to Google's privacy policy.
These services may set cookies in your browser. They do not have access to your audio, transcriptions, or app usage data.
Data Security
All communication between the app and our servers is encrypted using TLS (HTTPS). We follow industry-standard security practices to protect your data in transit.
Children's Privacy
Hold to Talk is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected on this page with an updated "Last updated" date.
