Hold to Talk

Privacy for iPhone and iPad

Updated October 12, 2026

Hold to Talk for iOS is published by NS EC HOLDINGS, LLC. This policy describes the iPhone and iPad app, including version 1.0.6. For our Mac app and website, see the main privacy policy.

Audio and dictated text

When you dictate, audio is securely sent to our transcription service and a hosted transcription provider such as Groq or OpenAI. The service returns your text and does not retain your audio or transcript. Dictation requires an internet connection. Audio and transcripts are not used to train models.

Keyboard and local history

The optional iOS keyboard uses Full Access to communicate with the main app and insert your requested dictation. It reads nearby text only to insert the transcript cleanly. We do not collect unrelated text fields, passwords, payment cards, or secure text entry. Recent transcripts can be stored on your device for the keyboard History feature; you can clear or disable this history in settings.

Usage limits and purchases

A random app-specific identifier supports free usage limits, abuse prevention, and communication between the keyboard and main app. Apple handles in-app purchases. We receive purchase entitlement and usage information needed to provide Pro; we do not receive your payment card details.

First-party setup and purchase counts

Starting in version 1.0.4, production App Store installs send bounded first-reach counts to our own service: setup started, first dictation, keyboard setup deferred or completed, keyboard ready, text copied or inserted, free limit reached, Pro offer viewed, checkout started, and an initial verified Pro purchase. Each stage is attempted at most once per installed app, across the app and keyboard. TestFlight, sandbox and local test events are excluded, as are restored purchases and subscription renewals.

These requests contain only a fixed stage name, the count 1, platform, distribution and app version/build. They never contain audio, dictated text, surrounding keyboard text, names, vocabulary, transaction IDs, or device IDs. Our service records receipt time; network infrastructure necessarily processes the connection's IP address. These first-party counts are not sent to Meta and do not establish advertising attribution. Delivery is best-effort. Apple remains the source of truth for sales.

Install, app-session and purchase measurement

Version 1.0.1 and later use Meta’s iOS SDK to measure how advertising helps people discover the app. Meta receives installation and app-session events, a separate app-scoped pseudonymous identifier, and basic app, device, and network metadata such as app version, device model, operating system, event times, session duration, and the IP address used to connect. Starting in version 1.0.6, the app also sends the first verified paid Pro checkout per installation to Meta, including the amount and currency supplied by Apple. TestFlight, sandbox and local test purchases, restored purchases, subscription renewals and later checkouts on the same installation are excluded from this purchase event. Apple’s SKAdNetwork provides aggregate install and paid-checkout attribution; its conversion values do not include the purchase amount or customer identity.

IDFA collection, automatic purchase logging, and automatic content/event collectors are disabled. We do not request App Tracking Transparency permission. We restrict SDK event use to analytics and conversion measurement for our advertising. We do not send recordings, dictated text, keyboard input, transcript history, Apple transaction identifiers, our billing device identifier, names, email addresses, or contacts to Meta. Version 1.0 does not include this SDK.

Service providers

Our providers include Groq, OpenAI, Cloudflare, Apple, and, for install and app-session measurement in version 1.0.1 onward and first paid-checkout measurement in version 1.0.6 onward, Meta. Their privacy policies describe their respective practices.
